This is the beginning of a documentary I made with two friends during the summer of 2005 about public response to the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. It must be said that the facts are now extremely outdated and that we had no prior film-making experience at that point. Nonetheless, I put up this clip because involvement in Darfur advocacy has been a big part of my life and something that informed, and still informs, both my artistic work and how I think about our world on a daily basis. Recently watching it again for the first time in years, I can still feel that same sting in my chest, that same urgency that I felt during the time it was made. The severe outrage and consuming passion for an issue was so unprecedented in myself that I can safely say I will never feel the same about another issue again.
